How our content is written and checked

1

Written by our team
Articles are written by the Debt Negotiators team, about the options we work with every day: consolidation, informal arrangements, debt agreements, credit file corrections and business tax debt.
2

Checked against the sources
Before an article is published, the facts in it are checked against government and regulator sources, including AFSA for formal insolvency options and the ATO for tax debt.
3

Checked against our compliance rules
Plain language. Downsides as prominent as benefits. No promised outcomes, no savings figures and no pressure. Our fees mentioned wherever our services are.
4

Updated when rules change
Some figures, such as the debt agreement income, debt and asset limits, change regularly. AFSA publishes the current figures, and we confirm the ones that apply to you on the call.
Spotted something wrong?

If you think an article is out of date or incorrect, email enquiries@debtnegotiators.com.au with the page address. We’ll check it against the source and correct it if it’s wrong.

Our articles are general information. They don’t take your circumstances into account, so the right option for you can only be worked out by looking at your situation.

Who we are

A Bankstown team, since 2009

Debt Negotiators has been working with Australians on unmanageable debt since 2009. Our team is based in Bankstown, NSW, and works with people right across the country by phone. If you’d prefer to meet face to face, you can make an appointment at our Bankstown office.

Many of the people who contact us have already looked at the obvious things, such as a consolidation loan or a balance transfer, and found the numbers still don’t work. We look at the whole position and work out which options are realistic, including ones that don’t depend on a lender saying yes.

We’re open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Sydney time. More about Debt Negotiators.

What we’re licensed to do
Australian Credit Licence 390820, covering our credit services such as consolidation loans and credit file corrections
Registered with AFSA as a debt agreement administrator, registration 1403, to administer debt agreements under Part IX of the Bankruptcy Act
The licensed entity is A & M Group Pty Ltd, ABN 90 138 457 520
The limits

What we don’t do

It’s worth being as clear about the limits as about what we can help with.
We aren’t
A registered trustee, so we don’t administer bankruptcies or personal insolvency agreements
A registered liquidator or voluntary administrator
A small business restructuring practitioner
A government agency or a helpline
We don’t
Give legal advice. If a question is a legal one, we’ll say so and suggest you speak to a lawyer
Give financial product advice, such as advice about investments or super
Promise outcomes. Creditors decide whether to accept a proposal, and lenders decide whether to approve a loan
Ask you to sign anything you haven’t had explained
Referrals, commissions and fees

We work with a panel of registered trustees and a panel of registered small business restructuring practitioners. If we refer you to one, we may receive a referral payment, and we may charge fees for pre-insolvency work. We’ll tell you about any payment or fee before you decide.

If you take out a loan we arrange, we may receive a commission from the lender. We’ll tell you about it before you decide. The rates are in our Credit Guide.

Debt Negotiators is a fee-based service. Fees are explained before you decide. The first conversation costs nothing.

Complaints

If you’re not happy with something we’ve done

Tell us. We’d rather hear about a problem and fix it. Our complaint handling page explains how to raise a complaint, how we respond, and what you can do if you’re not satisfied with our response.
