2. Our services

We are a licensed, fee-based service. We are not a lender, a financial counselling service, a law firm or a registered trustee in bankruptcy, and we do not give financial advice.

Depending on your circumstances, we may:

  • Negotiate an informal arrangement with your creditors on your behalf. Creditors do not have to agree, and interest and fees may keep building while you negotiate.
  • Prepare and administer a debt agreement under Part IX of the Bankruptcy Act 1966. Proposing a debt agreement is an act of bankruptcy. A debt agreement is listed on the National Personal Insolvency Index and on your credit report, and your creditors can vote against it.
  • Help you look at debt consolidation or refinancing. Any loan is arranged through Click Financial. A consolidation loan is still a loan: it is not always cheaper overall, and the lender decides whether to approve it.
  • Help with credit repair. We can review your credit report with you and ask for listings that may be incorrect to be corrected. We cannot remove listings that are correct, and you can ask for corrections yourself for free.
  • Help with business and tax debt, such as ATO payment arrangements. If you need a registered liquidator, restructuring practitioner or lawyer, we will refer you.

When we help you with a credit contract, such as a consolidation loan, this is called credit assistance. When we help you manage or negotiate debts you already have, this is a debt management service. Both are covered by our Australian Credit Licence.

3. Free help is available

You do not have to pay for help with debt.

Free, independent and confidential financial counselling is available from the National Debt Helpline on 1800 007 007 or at ndh.org.au. Small business owners can call the Small Business Debt Helpline on 1800 413 828.

A financial counsellor can help with many of the same things we do, such as negotiating with creditors, at no cost to you. We encourage you to consider this before deciding to use a paid service.

4. Fees and charges you pay us

Our first conversation and initial assessment are free. If you choose one of our paid services, we will explain the fees in writing before you agree to anything. All fees are in Australian dollars and include GST.

Debt consolidation or refinance assistance Usually no fee. In some complex cases a fee may apply. If it does, we will give you a written quote, and we will not charge the fee unless you accept it. If a fee applies, on settlement of the loan.

You may also have to pay fees charged by others, such as a lender’s establishment fee or AFSA fees. We will tell you about these before you decide.

5. Commissions and other payments we receive

If you take out a consolidation loan or refinance arranged through Click Financial, A & M Group Pty Ltd may receive commission from the lender:

  • an up-front commission of 0.65% of the loan amount (this can vary slightly between lenders); and
  • an ongoing (trail) commission of 0.15% a year of the loan balance.

If we refer you to another broker or lender, we may receive a referral fee, which is normally a percentage of the up-front fee they charge.

Commissions and referral fees are paid by the lender or broker, not by you. Before we arrange any loan, we will give you a written credit proposal disclosure that sets out the fees and commissions involved, and you can ask us for the amount at any time before you proceed.

We do not receive commissions or other payments from your creditors for debt agreements or informal arrangements.

Our staff are paid a salary and may receive a bonus. Bonuses are not based on the service you choose, the amount you borrow, or whether we refer you to another business or lender.

6. Credit providers we deal with most

In the last 12 months, the credit providers we arranged the most credit contracts with were:

  • Bankwest
  • Commonwealth Bank (CBA)
  • Westpac
  • MA Money
  • Resimac
  • Bluestone

7. Our assessment of whether credit is unsuitable

Before we help you apply for credit, or suggest you stay in or increase an existing credit contract, we must assess whether it is unsuitable for you. To do this we will ask about your requirements and objectives and your financial situation, and take reasonable steps to check what you tell us.

We must not help you with a credit contract that is unsuitable for you.

You can ask us for a written copy of this assessment free of charge, up to 7 years after the credit contract starts. If you ask within 2 years, we will give it to you within 7 business days. If you ask after that, we will give it to you within 21 business days.
